I don’t know for sure- but is it possible that without these latest proposals Germany is on course to achieve 118T of the 200T and the latest measures enable the shortfall of 82T (82T/1250T = 6.5%- I think I’ve seen that figure elsewhere) to be bridged. That would be consistent with my reading of this article’s first paragraph.

In any case, the €70-80 billion that the German gov’t wants to invest to make the energiewende happen should help to reach the 2020 target. Postponing to a 2030 target would simply end up in giving more excuses to postpone yet again another time when we reach 2030…

Thank you for the article.
I have however a problem understanding the maths.

German emissions in 1990 where 1250 MT.
In 2013, 950 MT (23% reduction)
The 40% goal in 2020 would be 750 MT.

So we need a reduction of 200MT. If the government aims at 82MT reduction, the is still a big gap.
Where are my math wrong?

Anyhow, I’m glad that more efforts are put into heating and transportations 🙂
