The growth cap for biomass is 100MW, not 1GW. Also, I don’t see how trying to let renewables grow in a more controlled (rather than much slower) fashion equates to ‘putting the interests back into the hands of those who have a deep interest in remaining with conventional, dirty fossil energy sources.’ Also where did you find that industry exemptions are the main driver of growth in retail prices? According to energy ministry figures, the exemption burden increased from 0.6 EUR/kWh in 2011 to 1.35 EUR/kWh in 2014. In comparison, the overall EEG increased from 2.05 EUR/kWh to 6.24 EUR/kWh. Clearly industrial exemptions are not the main driver of cost increases but just the growth of renewables in the first place. And in your last section, you can’t argue for politics to take charge of pushing renewables and in the same paragraph deplore the fact that it is not a free or liberal market.

Nice but gloomy article.
I’m a bit confused regarding the ” direct marketing” concept.
The producer still gets the FiT. The only difference is that you have to have contracted partner who markets your energy into the market and not the TSO. For this you get a surcharge to “incentivise” and pay for imbalances. This is of course more complicated for smaller players. Have I understood the concept?
Many thanks
Michael
