However, the United Kingdom has recently made a deal with Chinese nuclear suppliers to get a new, powerful power plant. Albion has always been so kindly unselfish when recommending Latin America not meddling in nuclear matters….

( how to construct a head line on a Monday morning in France : ” Knödel et Nudeln ….”)

The article ends with a French saying: better without spoon than without soup.

EdF has orders for 2016 of more than 600MW REs in Latin America and not a single Watt of atom power:

The educational state of Joe public in the UK needs visualisation:

Half of the UK atom reactors are showing signs of old age. For today 8 reactors are throttled down or show no power generation at all.Source:

A similar picture in France, 25 reactors of 56(?) are down:

Yesterday the spot market price (day ahead) for electricity in the UK reached nearly £200.-/MWh peak at 18.30 hours:

Is there a remit information (www) of Argentinia/South America available?
Is power freely traded, a market overview available?
How are the cracked reactors handled, the German/ Dutch and Japanese ‘civil atom bombs’ ?

The difference over renewables far more than covers the latter's extra integration costs (voltage stabilisation and backup – which nuclear also needs). In addition, the costs of nuclear are extremely uncertain. The industry has a long history of cost overruns and delays, leading to the "negative learning curve" discovered by Arnulf Grübler. And you have long-tail risks of catastrophe that cannot be ignored, either politically or economically.

The issue is whether it still worthwhile for Latin American energy policymakers to invest substantial time and political capital in a dying technology. Nuclear is technically doable and low-carbon, sure. That is no longer a sufficient reason to keep it alive.
